A few years ago, I began a journey through the bible that forever altered my view of scripture. I had always held the bible in high esteem, but this adventure caused me to dig into it in a completely different way I ever had before.
The premise was simple. Every day for a year, I would read several chapters of the bible, then I would blog my thoughts and response to what I read. This wasn’t an in-depth study or a theological thesis. This was a daily reflection – sometimes pretty raw and unprocessed – on the words of scripture as I read them that day.
As I jumped into this commitment, I had two primary concerns. First, could I really follow through with it? Could I not only read each day, but blog each day about what I was reading? That meant no vacations, no breaks, no “I just don’t feel like it today.” That was my first concern. My second was whether or not I would have any material to write about each day. I mean, I know there is a lot of valuable stuff in there, but what if I hit a day that was simply void of anything profound? With those concerns at the forefront of my mind, I jumped into the adventure, and it was an incredible experience.
My concerns turned out to be mostly unfounded. It was easier than I imagined to read and write each day, and most days, there was too much to write about, rather than not enough. Many of those who followed the blog over the course of that year encouraged me to compile these posts into book form. I loved the idea, but there was one major problem: It would be a HUGE book. The full text (as found in the Every Day Complete Bible) is nearly 180,000 words, which would make for about a 450 page book.
So, I decided to break it all up into individual books of the bible. This allows people to grab the writing in small chunks, for very little out of pocket. I also decided to release the books only in electronic form, since printing even a small number of each volume would be cost-prohibitive.
Now, after a lot of editing, formatting, converting, and uploading, all 69 volumes (66 individual biblical books, plus the Old Testament, New Testament, and Complete Bible collections) are available for purchase.
